空亡

空亡, the void, is the two branches missing from the decade (旬) the day pillar belongs to.

Cutting the sixty in tens leaves twelve branches against ten stems, so two remain over, and those two are the void.

Where the year branch is void, the seat of ancestry and the early years is read as standing empty.

The seat of the Ancestral Soul stands empty. It is hard to lean on what is handed down, and the merit coming from the root is thin.

Do not reckon what was received early; count only what was made by your own hand.
